Brown trout continue to feature in many of the catch
returns as the lower water temperature appears to suit
them. Some large Rainbows and Blues have also been
landed this week along with several Golds from the small
ponds. The Millpond and Meadow Pond are fishing really
well with the Golds attracting a lot of attention. Dry
flies have been taking most fish this week with Sedges,
Hoppers, Daddy Long Legs and Muddlers being the
favourite patterns. Buzzers, Bloodworm and Damsels have
also been taking fish from just under the surface.
Now that the evenings are getting darker the Fishery is
closing at 9.00pm.
The biggest fish landed this week was taken by Sean
Hill, Alloa, with an 8lb 8oz Rainbow

The fresher water conditions are certainly suiting the
Browns and nearly one quarter of all fish landed this
week were Brown Trout with the biggest one at 5lb 12oz.
Swanswater was lucky to escape the worst of rain and
flooding that affected other parts of the country and
the water continues to run clear. The fish have been
near the surface of the water all week and taking a wide
variety of flies with Muddlers, Sedges, Klinkhammer,
Hoppers, Bibio and Pennell being amongst the most
successful. Black is the favourite colour. A fairly
fast retrieve is usually required as the fish are very
active and looking to chase. One double figure Rainbow
also figures amongst the catch returns.

A much better week's fishing due to a variety of
factors. The weed clearing operations at the start of
the week removed the hiding places and stirred up the
fish. Fresh water introduced by the heavy rainfall
resulted in a fall in water temperature to 14oC.
Although there was some dirty water, it did not last
long and the ponds were soon clear again. Also the
constant flow of water through the Fishery means no
algae. The fish were moving freely all round the ponds
and anglers were enjoying some excellent surface sport.
Because of the fresher conditions fish wanted to chase
the flies and a medium to fast retrieve was
recommended. Once again a wide variety of patterns and
colours were taking with the favourites being Hopper,
Snatcher, Bibio, Buzzer, Daddy, Kilnkhammer and Damsel.
Small traditional wet flies such as Alexandra,
Greenwell's Glory and Kate McLaren were also doing
well. Those who fished the night shift on Friday
enjoyed a lovely night and some excellent fishing.

As the week went by and the frequent heavy showers
lowered the water temperature the fishing improved.
Fish were in general being caught in the spells between
the showers and were switching on and off depending on
weather conditions. Anglers were having some superb
sport as the fish are very high in the water at present
and can be seen moving, feeding and following flies. A
wide variety of flies were taking with sedges, hoppers,
klinkhammers and spiders doing very well. Buzzers,
bloodworm, bibio, CDCs and small white moths were also
doing well. On the small ponds the goldies continue to
entertain with several anglers, including many of the
younger regulars, making a point of targeting
them.Amongst the best catches this week were :
Allan McLachlan, Plean, 3 for 11lb 8oz including
6lb 8oz Blue
Keith Honey, Skinflats, 2 for 9lb 4oz

The biggest fish of the year so far, an 11lb 11oz
Rainbow, was landed on Sunday, which turned out to be
the best day of the week. As the air and water
temperature rose as the week went on the fishing became
harder, but there were always some people doing well. A
wide variety of flies and tactics were taking fish from
small lures fished slow and deep to wets and dries
retrieved quickly just under or across the surface.
Amongst the best patterns were Sedges, Buzzers, Kate
McLaren, Hare’s Ear, Damsel and Spider. Plenty of fish
were seen near the surface of the water and many anglers
were reporting follows and knocks. On the small ponds,
the goldies are creating a lot of interest and also some
frustration! A large number of these highly visible
fish can be seen and they are giving anglers a lot of
sport.

Two
superb big Browns were landed from Swanswater in a week
which saw a definite improvement in conditions and
returns. Plenty of big fish were also seen cruising
near the surface and several anglers reported losing
biggies. One angler, from Newcastle, landed a Tench
estimated at around 4lb on a small black hopper fished
on the surface. The no catch and release rule on
Swanswater was waived so that this lovely specimen could
be safely returned to the water. Buzzers and Bloodworm have
been doing well all week with CDC, Daddy Long Legs,
Muddler, Hare’s Ear and Snatcher also popular at various
times. Black was predominately the favourite colour.
The fishing was best morning and evening with the
afternoons being somewhat harder. Most fish were taken
just under the surface although occasionally anglers
were having to use small lures and go just a little bit
deeper. Chris Armstrong,
Airth, took the biggest Brown of the season to date
in his 3 for 16lb 6oz including 2 Browns,
bigger one at 10lb 7oz George Reid, Glasgow,
also had a big Brownie in his 3 for 14lb 8oz

There was a great deal of surface activity all week with
fish being seen moving and feeding near the top of the
water. After the heavy overnight rain midweek freshened
things up, the fishing improved towards the weekend.
Small black flies were doing particularly well, fished
on or just below the surface. The fish are still
looking to chase and therefore flies need to be
retrieved to attract their attention. A wide variety of
nymphs, wets and dries were working this week. Favourite
patterns included Snatchers, Buzzers, Bibio, Kate
McLaren, Diawl Bach, PTN, Hopper, Sedge, and Muddler.
If the sun was out and it was very bright, very small
lures fished 1 to 2 feet below the surface were working
well especially if they had a bit of sparkle in them. One double figure Rainbow features in this week's best
bags along with a good selection of the other varieties
currently being stocked.

Plenty of fish are being seen moving around Swanswater
mostly just below the surface. Mornings and evenings
have been the most productive times with the afternoons
being a bit quieter, especially when it was very sunny
and warm. The heavy showers and swirling winds also
made things a bit tricky from time to time. The
favourite patterns this week included Buzzer, Sedge,
Muddler, Spider, Bibio, Damsel and Bloodworm. The fish
are still looking to chase so a medium to fast retrieve
has been needed.

Variety
has been the watchword this week with a wide range of
flies catching a good selection of fish. Approximately
a quarter of the fish landed are Browns and another
quarter are Blues. The rest are Rainbows with a good
smattering of Golds, especially from the small ponds.
All the fish are of the usual superb quality and a good
number of larger fish are being taken. Although there
are not a lot of fish actually showing on the top, they
are all very near the surface and taking everything from
lures - Dancer, particularly Black and Orange, and
Damsel the favourites, through nymphs, including
Montana, PTN and Diawl Bach, to dry flies. In the
evenings, when the wind died down, the fish were very
active and coming up to dries with Sedges, Muddlers and
CDCs the most popular. George Gemmell,

For most of the week small black flies fish just
under or on surface were working well on all the
ponds. Amongst the favourite patterns were Bibio,
Spider, Montana, and Buzzers. Muddlers, Hoppers and
Sedges were also doing well, especially in the
evenings. The most important tactic was that the
fish wanted something to chase and therefore a
fairly fast retrieve was needed. The first of the
goldies have been stocked in the small ponds and are
causing a bit of fun and frustration, as they can be
seen following flies in to the edge and then often
turning away without actually taking. Several of
our younger anglers have been spending a lot of time
stalking the golds, and in several cases catching
them. The Brownies continue to be very active and
this week browns made up 20% of all fish caught.
Some superb big Blues also figure in this week's
returns. Amongst the best catches this
week were Ronnie Loos, Stirling, 4 for 18lb
including 9lb 5oz Rainbow and a

The fishing improved dramatically
midweek when there was a drop in water temperature.
Since then the depth at which the fish are to be
found depended on whether or not the sun was out.
Evenings are improving and there is a good deal of
activity once the sun starts to set. During the
bright spells lures were doing well, fished on an
intermediate line, with Damsel, Dancer, and Cat’s
Whisker the best patterns. When there was some
cloud cover wet flies, such as Kate McLaren, Spider
and Bibio, were the favourites, along with Buzzers,
Muddlers, Diawl Bach and Montana nymphs. In general
the fish, especially the Browns, are fairly active
and many anglers are reporting getting follows
although the fish are not always taking what is
offered.
Although not many big fish were
landed this week, over 340 fish in total were taken
including some really good quality Blues and
Browns. Amongst the best bags were: John Kirkwood, Glasgow, 5 for
16lb 1oz including 2 Blues, bigger
one at 7lb 5oz Ronnie Loos, Stirling, 3 for
10lb 14oz including 6lb 12oz Blue Douglas Foot, Dunkeld, 3 for

Some superb Blues up to 8lb 6oz, the
biggest of the year to date, have been landed at
Swanswater this week, along with several nice
Browns, mostly around 2lb to 2lb 8oz. The bright
warm conditions made the fishing quite hard some
days, but fish were being taken all round the
water. In general they were not deep, sitting
around two to four feet down, and looking to chase
small lures and nymphs rather than taking anything
static. Favourite patterns were Dancer, Damsel,
Buzzer, Montana, Diawl Bach and Bloodworm; best
colour was black or black and green. John Taylor, Kilburnie, 5 for
